We all get them, a leaflet through your door offering super cheap and discounted offers for rug, carpet and upholstery cleaning services. But lets look at this a little closer..

The company advertising will often give very little away about themselves, check for a local address and see if they have a local telephone number, many companies these days will use free phone telephone numbers to hide the fact that they are from another county or region.

Look for Trade Qualifications ~ For example, in the carpet cleaning industry, the recognised qualification is to become an NCCA member (The National Carpet Cleaners Association) this involves course attendance and examination passes before membership is offered. Many carpet cleaners will try to convince you that a basic course thrown in with a machine purchase or membership of  a website that checks trades is enough, well, in our opinion it is not. Many carpets, rugs and soft furnishings are ruined each and every year due to lack of, or no knowledge at all, with operators simply learning at your expense.

Talking about expense, why not try to calculate the cost of replacing your soft furnishings, favourite rugs and carpets ? You will be shocked! If your sofa and matching chairs cost £3000, are you really sure that you are willing to let someone clean it for £30 or £40 ? Often very cheap solutions are used to try and keep the cost down, usually detergents that remain in the fabric, rapidly attracting more dirt and dust.

An image of a rug recently cleaned in the historic town of Battle in East Sussex. This rug didn’t look particularly soiled when we arrived at our customers home,  but after a thorough vacuum and agitation session using our preferred non toxic cleaning solution, the rug was starting to look brighter. The effect after the extraction process had taken place is clear to see. Our client lived in a very old house in Battle, situated on the high street, I suspect a large amount of diesel dust in the rug fibres would be the main cause of the rugs grey appearance, which changed immediately when we extracted using our new Jaguar carpet cleaning system.

I personally enjoy our visits to Battle, the ancient town boasts many attractions, including the Abbey and lovely individual shops and restaurants, but I really like the little Delicatessens and bakeries.

Be careful when purchasing antiques or second hand furniture ~

A regular route into our home is via a piece of used furniture, rugs or even second hand clothes, larvae or even the moths themselves can be hiding in the lining or backing of rugs. The simple answer is to thoroughly clean any item before bringing into your home, hot wash clothing, employ a professional carpet cleaning company to clean soft furnishings and rugs. Cleaning ~

Investing in a quality vacuum cleaner will remove eggs and cases from the carpet fibres, be sure to remove the bag immediately after using the vacuum cleaner too, if you leave them in the cleaner they will simply consume the dust and fly out and continue to eat your natural fibres in your home. It is extremely important to move furniture regularly, beds, book cases, large units and drawers are a favourite hiding place for the carpet moth, also, up-end these units periodically as the carpet moth can attach the cases underneath too.

Natural Products ~

Cedar balls are becoming more popular as a moth deterrent, but the only downside is that the cedar balls properties fade after a few months and you will need to invest in more.

Vacuum pack and store ~

Once you have washed and cleaned your clothes, seal your coats and suits in plastic storage bags. This is very sensible action to take particularly if you own expensive silk or cashmere suits. Garments that can’t be washed can be placed in plastic and frozen, this will deal with the eggs and larvae too.

Keep an eye open for us on the roads of Sussex! Just a quick shot of our latest company van, finished in black for a change.  A simple logo and message has been written on to the vehicle.

One of the reasons for our new vehicle is fuel economy, our new van is more than 50% fuel efficient than our old vehicle too, delivering us to your door in relative comfort! Pick out a card from one of the dispensers found just in front of each wing mirror.

A very nice before and after, leather cleaning in Eastbourne, Sussex

We seem to be cleaning more and more leather furniture these days as people are looking after the investments they are looking after investments made in their home, from leather furniture, carpets, rugs and fabric furniture. With regular cleaning, items will last for years, looking clean and fresh telling your visitors that you care about your home or office.

Our non toxic cleaning process is non toxic and very effective, we shot this image to convey the real difference that careful cleaning can make. returning the furniture to almost a new condition. Our customer was delighted with the results, giving cards to friends and neighbours. We also noticed a lot of sand deposits whilst dusting and vacuuming the furniture, this was not surprising as we were in Eastbourne, close to the seafront.

This rug is valued at over £30,000, careful cleaning was required.

An existing client was very nervous when talking to us about cleaning a beautiful rug, which was understandable as it cost over £30k. We thoroughly vacuumed the rug, applied our specialist non toxic cleaning solution which was gently agitated using a soft brush. Extraction followed using pure water. The fringes were brushed with micro splitting solution and extracted using a specialist hand tool. The rug responded perfectly, after a twenty minute dwell time the colours and radiance were restored and the stunning rug looked its best again. Our customer inspected the rug and was relieved to see it looking its best.

Leather Chair cleaning

Here is an image we recently took whilst cleaning a leather chair in Tunbridge Wells. This piece of furniture didn’t look too bad before we started cleaning, the first process involves brushing and a vacuum followed by cleaning using a neutral non toxic solution, this started to reveal the extent of the dirt the chair was holding. We then applied specialist leather cleaner followed be a leather feeding solution. The feeding solution leaves the leather feeling soft and supple preventing premature cracking and wear, leather furniture is worth looking after and regular cleaning will ensure years of enjoyment and use.
